Stock Market Weekly update -Aug 11
We closed out the week at around 5344 on the SPX, after a huge drop on Monday (after Japan’s 12% market crash), basically making it mostly unchanged from the prior week’s level! The VIX spiked to its highest level since the Covid crash. We recovered from this 4th weekly drop, but we’ll see what next week brings with the CPI report, and earnings from some big Retailers..
The 10 year Interest rate -moved higher to just under 4%
The Dollar -mostly flat
Gold -mostly flat
Oil -up a bit
Bitcoin/Crypto: recovered above 60k, after dropping to 50k
New all time highs: GDDY, ICE, MCO, REGN, TMUS,
ALL time lows: CHGG, MULN, TDOC, ZM,
Earnings movers: FTNT, LLY, PLTR, SHOP, UA popped, -ABNB, BMBL, FSLY dropped
Percent of stocks above 5- day Moving Average: dropped from 49 to 44%
Next week: …maybe we see a bounce?
